There's a reason why freedom of the press is part of the 1st Amendment in the US constitution. It was not an afterthought, rather among the first things they wanted specifically protected. Without freedom of the press--even manipulative media outlets--information can be easily controlled by a central authority. Duterte is a lot like Trump in that he vilifies the media that doesn't support him. Of course it must be frustrating, especially if it biased or flat out wrong, but any attack on the media is dangerous.
